Freedom House is deeply concerned about the proposed cuts to the international affairs budget in the Republican “Path to Prosperity” budget plan. The budget proposal spearheaded by House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) includes large cuts for both international diplomacy and development and would severely constrain America’s foreign assistance efforts.
Freedom House mourns the loss of U.S. Representative Donald Payne, who died today at the age of 77. He was the Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights and previously served as Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Freedom House joined 30 civil society and business groups in opposition to amending the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) by issuing a public letter to every member of Congress.
