Please join Freedom House as we host a preview of the documentary-in-progress and discussion of Making the Case, Beatrice Mtetwa and the Rule of Law, a film that seeks to highlight the importance of the rule of law in Zimbabwe by focusing on renowned attorney Beatrice Mtetwa. Through interviews with Mtetwa and some of her defendants, Making the Case tells the story of what happens when rulers place themselves above the law and why defense of the rule of law is a crucial step in the building of a civil society. The film gives voice to those who have been victims of the regime and provides an insider's view on what it takes to fight back against the brutal and corrupt government.

Freedom House’s office in Mexico, in conjunction with the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights of the United Nations, the Asociación de Académicos Daniel Cosío Villegas and the Mexican Ministry of Interior, will host an event to launch Freedom House’s 2012 Press Freedom survey. The event, which will take place in Colegio de Mexico on World Press Freedom Day,  May 3, will also serve as an opportunity for key opinion and decision-makers in Mexico to discuss the challenges facing freedom of expression in their country.

Freedom House will release the findings of Freedom of the Press 2012, its annual press freedom survey, at a press conference held May 1 in front of the World Press Freedom map at the Newseum.
