Egypt

Since its founding, Freedom House has been a clear voice for freedom both at home and abroad. The heart of Freedom House's message is that those who enjoy the benefits of freedom should help others throughout the world attain or defend their own freedom. Freedom House advocacy seeks to further its mission by encouraging U.S. policymakers, as well as other governments and international institutions, to adopt policies that advance human rights and democracy around the world.

Freedom House advocacy falls into three categories:

Global Outreach on Freedom

In an effort to promote human rights and democracy on a global scale, Freedom House actively advocates for higher standards within those international bodies, such as the UN Human Rights Council and the Community of Democracies, that address human rights issues around the world. Freedom House utilizes its data on political rights and civil liberties in every country in the world to advocate for ongoing attention to human rights abuses and repression occurring around the globe.  More...

How the United States Promotes Democracy and Human Rights

Supporting freedom around the world necessarily includes a scrutiny of the promotion of human rights and democracy by the United States, both at home and abroad. Freedom House speaks out when American governance practices fall short of international standards, and urges the U.S. government to remain a leader in promoting democracy by example, as well as through the implementation of consistent and well-planned policies and programs.  More...

Confronting Democracy's Biggest Challenges

Although the proportion of people around the world living under representative governments has increased with time, there are still many countries where citizens have few political and personal freedoms. Freedom House focuses on these toughest cases, as well as those repressive countries with global influence, such as Russia, China, and Iran, that may be promoting undemocratic norms worldwide. More...
