Freedom of expression is the right of every individual to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media. In response to a decade of declines in freedom of the press worldwide, Freedom House is engaged in a multi-faceted campaign to defend these critical rights and support free expression activists. We seek to oppose or overturn media laws that restrict journalists’ ability to cover crucial issues, provide online resources to support advocacy on this issue, and educate and draw attention to cases of impunity, harassment and censorship around the world. Freedom House is also a member of the International Freedom of Expression eXchange (IFEX), a network of more than 90 organizations worldwide that monitors, promotes, and defends freedom of expression.
