The repressive regime has fostered an environment in which political and civil liberties are regularly violated. One of the more drastic repercussions of this restrictive environment in Cameroon has been a steady decline in citizen participation in political processes and elections. Freedom House’s program in Cameroon aims to promote broader citizen participation in political processes and presidential and parliamentary elections. Freedom House works to achieve this through support to civil society in their election monitoring, civic education and voter mobilization activities. In August and September 2011, with Freedom House support, the coalition of 20 civil society organizations organized the first ever nationwide "Get Out The Vote" campaign in Cameroon.
