Part of the SPEAKER SERIES, The Global Pushback Against Restrictions on Freedom of Association, highlighting Think, Meet, Act: A Global Freedom of Association Campaign.
In countries all over the world, individuals and organizations are being attacked and harassed simply for wanting to join together, discuss common ideas and beliefs, and work to make their societies better places to live. This year, organizations around the world will join together in a global campaign to raise awareness about how restrictions of freedom of association (FOA) affect their communities and impact their efforts to promote people’s rights.
Although the global campaign will last several months, most of the organizations will join together on July 12, 2012 for a Global Freedom of Association Day. Come hear about their experiences with the Campaign and join in the discussion with regional specialists about what Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) are and should be doing to pushback against FOA restrictions. We will be commemorating the Global Freedom of Association Day by hosting a series of events on July 17th , July 24th , and July 25th.
Panelists include:
- Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, Executive Director, Society for Democratic Initiatives, Sierra Leone (SDI)
- Janet Love, Director, Legal Resources Centre
-
Waruguru Kaguongo, Research Fellow for UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Assembly and Association, ICNL
