Position Summary
The Senior Finance Officer will plan, direct and control financial, administrative and human resources functions according to the regulations, policies and procedures of donors, the host government and Freedom House in support of program activities aimed at strengthening and encouraging civil society organizations to work effectively in promoting democratic governance, rule of law and respect for human rights in Zimbabwe and other Southern African countries. This position is based in Johannesburg, South Africa and reports to the Project Director.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business finance, economics, accounting, or related field
- Minimum 6 - 8 years of related experience
- Minimum 3 years experience with grants compliance monitoring preferred
- Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Mastery of MS Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of South African accounting and financial laws
- Knowledge of all accounting principles, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and automated accounting systems
- Knowledge of USAID financial and reporting requirements
- Prior experience working with NGO accounting in a fast paced finance department
- Experience with managing funder relationships (USG, foreign governments, and private funders)
- Ability to analyze financial information efficiently and accurately
- Ability to prepare grant proposal documents for submission to both public and private funders
- Ability to effectively write daily correspondence, reports, maintain documentation, and complete required forms
- Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times
Some Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in the provision of effective strategic, financial and human resource planning and information
- Provide comptrollership functions in order to ensure that finances are managed according to legislation, policies and procedures and GAAP
- Manage and coordinate human resources and administrative functions including personnel administration and payroll
- Provide leadership and direction to staff to ensure efficient use of human resources
- Other related duties as assigned.
