Anne Garrels is the former senior foreign correspondent for NPR's foreign desk. Over the course of her career, she reported from the Middle East, Israel, China, and the former Soviet Union and its successor states, earning an Alfred I. Dupont Award for her Russia coverage. Before joining NPR, Ms. Garrels was the State Department correspondent for NBC News and, prior to that, served as ABC News’ Moscow bureau chief and correspondent. She also served as the network's Central American bureau chief. She has won numerous awards including the George Polk Award and the CPB Edward R. Murrow Award.
