License to Censor: The Use of Media Regulation to Restrict Press Freedom

Freedom House released its newest report today, “License to Censor: The Use of Media Regulation to Restrict Press Freedom.” The report notes that a range of governments are restricting media freedom using licensing and regulatory frameworks and receive little criticism or attention for doing so; it also explores issues of government oversight, self-regulatory bodies, and licensing. Through in-depth country studies and an examination of recent cases where media regulation threatens media diversity and freedom, the report offers cautionary examples and recommendations for reform.
