Kramer Assesses U.S. Democracy Promotion

On January 12, Freedom House president David J. Kramer spoke on a panel hosted by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, “Democracy Promotion Under Obama: Revitalization or Retreat?” during which he took a critical look at the Obama Administration’s handling of the Arab Spring and stressed the need for the U.S. to have a clear vision on democracy promotion and devote more attention human rights issues. Panelists included Carnegie’s Thomas Carothers and Stanford University's Jeremy Weinstein and was moderated by James Traub of the New York Times.
