Activists Defend OAS Human Rights Commission

At a time when human rights defenders are coming increasingly under threat, several Latin American governments, including Venezuela and Ecuador, are trying to weaken the Organization of American States (OAS) Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. Freedom House brought a group of activists from the region to Washington, DC to testify before the Commission, where they called for the Commission to remain autonomous. They also met with policymakers and spoke at the Council of the Americas about the violence surrounding elections.
